We are the 2027 European Triathlon Championships

Kitzbühel will host the European Triathlon Championships in June 2027. The most legendary sports town in the Alps successfully prevailed against three other candidates. This was officially announced today by the European Triathlon Union, much to the delight of the Austrian Triathlon Federation and the local organizing committee of the Kitzbühel Triathlon Club. This means that Europe's most important triathlon event will once again take place in Austria in 2027. Europe's best athletes will also compete at world-class level for Olympic qualification points.

The 2027 European Championships will include elite, para, and age group competitions, bringing athletes from all over Europe to Tyrol. The official European Championship program will be complemented by numerous side events, turning Kitzbühel into a national and international meeting place for the triathlon community over several days.

A total of around 2.000 athletes from around 40 nations are expected to attend. Kitzbühel is once again making triathlon history: following the Elite European Championships in 2014 and 2017, the elite title competitions will be held for the third time. For Austria as a whole, this is already the fifth time that the European Triathlon Championships in the Olympic discipline have been held, following Linz in 1990, Velden in 1998, and Kitzbühel in 2014 and 2017.

The international championships also have a special symbolic significance: the Austrian Triathlon Federation will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027. The awarding of the title competitions thus represents a sporting highlight in the federation's anniversary year.

This is the first time in the history of Europe Triathlon that European Championships have been awarded so far in advance. This gives us the opportunity to work with all our partners to deliver an event of the highest sporting and organizational standard," explains Marc D'Hooge, President of Europe Triathlon. The Austrian Federation also sees the early award as a decisive advantage: “The long lead time allows us to develop the 2027 European Championships in Kitzbühel in a targeted manner together with the Kitzbühel Triathlon Club and the Tyrol Triathlon Federation. The fact that this event also marks the sporting highlight of the 40th anniversary of the Austrian Triathlon Federation makes this competition particularly special,” says ÖTRV President Walter Zettinig.

Wolfgang Fuchs, chairman and event director of Kitzbühel Triathlon, is delighted and proud that the 2027 European Triathlon Championships have been awarded to Kitzbühel – exactly ten years after the last European Championships of this magnitude in 2017. We have developed steadily over the past few years and, together with our partners – the Tyrolean and Austrian Triathlon Associations – our local partners, and our more than 120 volunteers, we will now organize an unforgettable event for over 2,000 participants from 40 nations. With the main topic “Together,” there will be a celebration of sport that will make the core values of triathlon—endurance, respect, camaraderie, and versatility—tangible for everyone."

Kitzbühel's mayor, Dr. Klaus Winkler, is also enthusiastic about the award: "As mayor of Kitzbühel, I am extremely pleased about the award for the 2027 European Triathlon Championships, which impressively confirms our many years of experience as a reliable triathlon venue.

With its unique backdrop, extensive experience in hosting major international sporting events, and excellent infrastructure, Kitzbühel offers ideal conditions for a modern, sustainable, and media-effective Event.
